NEW WORK: Artist Coloring Book Volume 2

I get to share this now! I did the front cover design/illustration of Artists Coloring Book Volume 2. I also did the typesetting/design of the inside based on the previous volume.

The Artists Coloring Book is back and Hardywood Park Craft Brewery plans to host a book release party for Volume 2 on Sunday September 18th. The new edition of the book, featuring the art of 30 Richmond artists, will be available for purchase, as will original artwork from the book. Artists Coloring Book/ Volume 2 is edited by the popular Richmond artist and educator Chuck Scalin. In partnership with Chop Suey Books the book will be limited to only 500 copies.

I’ve been drawing some sketch covers. The cover with Power Man & Iron Fist doing the Karate Kid pose  will be up for sale on eBay soon. The other was commissioned by Curtis Grimstead to have his dog, Comet, incorporated in it.

NEW WORK: Candace Parrish

This infographic is pretty much finished. More minor changes might be made after additional focus group input. It was developed by VCU Doctoral Candidate Candace Parrish in the MATX program. I worked on illustration and design.

The Chronicles of Prydain

Don’t know if I will get to all of them, but here is the first attempt at doing some mock covers for the book series, The Chronicles of Prydain by Lloyd Alexander. Recently reread the series. It had a great impact on me as a kid.

Videos

I made a couple videos. One of my coloring process for The Little Red Fish book #4 that is scheduled to come out June 2016 and another of me playing around with a new character design process. The idea is to use the quasi random nature of pulling around vector points in Adobe Illustrator to help me loosen up while retaining some geometric structure. I then import that into Adobe Photoshop to digitally color and ink the underlying structure using Kyle Webster brushes.

Homesick | Restless

o be printed on a Risograph by Barry O’Keefe with similar colors. Can’t wait to see how it turns out! The piece is for the Homesick | Restless print exchange/exhibition organized by Barry O’Keefe. All the artists are Richmonders making commentary about the city, living in the it or the duality of loving the city while wanting to leave. I revisited a drawing about the history of the area marked as an African burial ground in Shockoe Bottom. What draws me to this city is the populace’s resilience, culture, innovation and unashamed defiance. What often makes me want to leave are the proposals and failures of the city government.
